Iceland Trip 2024

The end of May was nothing short of amazing as our school took 24 students on a thrilling 4-day, 3-night trip to Iceland.

The trip, organised by the Geography and Chemistry departments, aimed to provide an enriching experience for the students, allowing them to explore Iceland's fascinating culture and natural wonders in the company of their peers.

Upon arriving at Keflavik Airport at 8 am, students wasted no time and embarked on a breathtaking hike towards the Fagradalsfjall volcano, taking in the panoramic views during the 3-hour trek.

Following this exhilarating experience, they visited the Krysuvik Geothermal Area, immersing themselves in the unique geological features of Iceland.

Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland, with a drop of some 60 meters and a width of 25 meters.

The excitement didn't stop there. On the second day, the students admired the beauty of the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, and even ventured to the Solheimajokull glacier and Reynishverfisvegur black sand beach and caves.

This black sand beach can be found on the South Coast of Iceland, just beside the small fishing village of Vík í Mýrdal.

Additionally, they had the unique opportunity to learn about geothermal energy at the Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, the largest of its kind in Iceland, and had a detailed tour of the carbon capture and storage facility.

The adventure continued on the third day with a visit to the awe-inspiring Thingvellir National Park, where the students witnessed the meeting of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

They also marvelled at the powerful Geysir Hot Spring Area and the majestic Gullfoss waterfall.

It was an unforgettable trip filled with adventure, learning, and the beauty of Iceland's natural wonders! Here are some more brilliant photos from the trip.
