Student Leadership

At LAE Tottenham, we believe that our students' voices and opinions should be heard and acted upon. For that reason, LAET has three formal student leadership roles: Student President and Vice Presidents, House Captains, and Student Council Representatives.

Student PRESIDENT & VICE PRESIDENT

Student leadership at our school is primarily led by the Student President and Student Vice President, both of whom are elected annually. These individuals play a crucial role in representing our school at a broader level, attending various events, and speaking on behalf of the student body. Both individuals are also given external leadership coaching as part of their leadership development. They are expected to embody and uphold the school's core values of aspiration, endeavour, community, and reflection in their daily conduct, serving as role models for their peers.

House Captains

At LAET, every student who joins is assigned to one of three distinct houses: Woolf, Tull, and Faraday. These houses are named after notable figures: Faraday, named after the renowned scientist Michael Faraday (1791-1867); Woolf, in honour of the esteemed English writer Virginia Woolf (1882-1941); and Tull, after the English professional footballer and British Army officer, Walter Tull (1888-1918).

Each house is led by four house captains, who are elected annually. These captains are responsible for listening to the students within their house and relaying their concerns and ideas to the Senior Leadership Team. In addition to this, they serve as representatives of the school within public-facing events and are responsible for organising house events and culture.

Form Representatives

Each form group elects a representative to the Student Council, which the Student President chairs.

The council meets on a half-termly basis to discuss a wide variety of issues and ensure that our school is fulfilling its vision and values for the students we proudly serve. The headteacher and other senior leaders are present in these meetings so that decisions can be made and all views are treated with respect. Recommendations are then acted upon.

Examples of what the student council have secured in previous years include:

  • Changes to the school building
  • Changes to the food provision and canteen layout
  • Changes to the timing of the school day
  • Greater leadership over our co-curricular programme
